Sim Racing Monitor Distance and Field of View Setup Guide

Set up a sim racing monitor using screen dimensions, eye distance, display count, game settings and a stable driving position; verify each simulator’s guidance.

Quick answer

Measure the visible screen and your normal eye position, then use the simulator’s field-of-view tool or instructions. A larger display does not automatically mean a correct FOV; screen size, distance and game settings must agree.

Field of view should match the geometry of the screen to your seated position. Measure the visible display width and the distance from your normal eye position to the screen. Then enter those values in the simulator’s own FOV tool or follow its setup guide. Avoid choosing a value because it feels faster in one session.

Set the physical position first

Sit at your normal driving distance and set the monitor so the horizon and dashboard remain in a natural position. Measure from your eyes to the panel and from bezel to bezel across the visible image. Record the values so they remain consistent after moving the rig.

Use the simulator’s configuration

Different games expose different settings for single screens, triples and VR. For iRacing, follow the official three-monitor setup instructions and enter the display geometry. For VR, check current headset and PC requirements in iRacing’s VR guide. Do not copy a triple-screen value into a single-monitor or VR configuration.

A monitor-versus-triples-versus-VR decision also depends on setup space and supported hardware. See monitor vs triples vs VR. After changing FOV, adjust seating and mirrors, then verify the view in the simulator rather than changing the camera during a race.

Common questions

How do I set the field of view for sim racing?

Measure the visible display width and distance from your eyes, then use the game’s official FOV calculator or instructions for the selected display setup.

Should I use a wider FOV for more visibility?

Use the simulator’s calculated setting first. A wider value can distort perspective; configure side monitors or VR using the game’s own tools.

Does triple-screen setup need separate settings?

Yes. Follow the game’s current triple-monitor setup and enter screen angle, bezel and eye-distance values where supported.
